Transforming Power for Allentown's Solar and Roofing Pros

Hey there, friends!

We’re excited to share a behind-the-scenes peek into one of our latest projects. As an electrical contracting company, our work varies from residential fixes to complex commercial installations.

This time, we had the privilege of working with a local solar installation and roofing company right here in Allentown. Their project was no small feat – it involved setting up a commercial underground service that adhered to specific regulations and required precise execution.

The Project: An Underground Power Solution

Our task was to establish a robust underground electrical service from the utility pole to their facility. PPL (Pennsylvania Power & Light) has strict guidelines for underground service, and we needed to follow them to the letter. Here’s a glimpse into what we tackled:

  1. Conduit Installation: To start, we ran a 4” conduit from the pole, which is essential for protecting the power lines and ensuring durability. We also included additional conduit for potential future needs, providing flexibility for any upcoming expansions or changes.
  2. Depth and Protection: According to PPL’s requirements, the conduit had to be buried at least 42” below the surface. This depth safeguards the lines from accidental damage and environmental conditions. To further protect the conduit, we covered it with a layer of concrete. This added an extra layer of security and stability, ensuring that our work stands the test of time.
  3. Conduit Specifications: For the conduit bends, we used Rigid Metal Conduit, which is required for sweeping bends. This type of conduit is more robust and capable of withstanding the stresses of directional changes without compromising the integrity of the electrical system.
  4. Meter Bases: We installed three 200 Amp 3 Phase meter bases, designed for efficient in-house distribution of power. Each meter base is crucial for managing the electricity flow and ensuring the system’s reliability.
  5. Phased Approval: Given the complexity of the installation, we had to get approval for each phase of the project. This meticulous process ensured that every step met the highest standards and was compliant with all regulations.

Powering Up: Keeping the Lights On

One of the challenges we faced was maintaining power during the installation. To manage this, we used a portable generator. It was crucial to keep the power running while we worked on the new setup, ensuring that the solar installation and roofing company could continue their operations smoothly without any interruptions.

The Result

After careful planning and execution, the project was a success. The solar installation and roofing company now has a reliable and compliant underground power setup that will support their operations for years to come.

Seeing the project come to fruition and knowing that we’ve contributed to a local business’s growth and efficiency is incredibly rewarding.

It’s projects like these that make our job so fulfilling. If you’re looking to upgrade your electrical systems or need a team that can handle complex installations, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to power your future!
